While you’re there, swing by Sunda Kelapa Old Harbor. It’s right where the Ciliwung River meets the sea, in the Penjaringan/Pademangan district of North Jakarta. This spot is where Jakarta itself began, and for centuries it’s been a bustling center for trade. History feels close here—just take it all in.
Check out the Maritime Museum (Museum Bahari) on Jalan Pasar Ikan No. 1, right across from Sunda Kelapa Harbor in North Jakarta. Inside, you’ll find all sorts of stuff about Indonesia’s long-standing maritime and fishing traditions, stretching from Sabang to Merauke.
Stroll through Old Batavia (Oud Batavia), the area that used to go by the colonial name Batavia. The Dutch East India Company, led by Jan Pieterszoon Coen, founded this part of Jakarta on May 30, 1619. Walking around, you can still feel all that old-world history.

No worries, the tour goes on, rain or shine. We’ve got umbrellas in the car, and if it’s really coming down, your guide will switch up the plan so you can spend more time in indoor spots.
