Itinerary
Right after you land at Kuala Namu International Airport in Medan, your tour guide is waiting to welcome you. Then, you’re off on a 5-hour drive to Parapat, passing through Pematang Siantar—the second-biggest city in North Sumatra. The drive takes you past endless rubber and palm oil plantations. On the way, you’ll stop at the Patent Shop to grab some local treats—Teng Teng and Ting Ting are must-tries. Lunch comes next at a local restaurant. Once you get to Parapat, you’ll have a chance for a quick photo at the iconic “I LOVE LAKE TOBA” sign before checking into your hotel. Dinner’s served at the hotel. (Meals: Lunch, Dinner)
First, have breakfast at the hotel. After that, hop on a ferry across the clear waters of Lake Toba to Samosir Island. Samosir’s a gigantic volcanic island—actually, it’s the fifth-largest lake island in the world. It’s the heart of Batak Toba culture, and there are plenty of ancient artifacts left on the island. You’ll visit Tomok Village to see the old tomb of King Sidabutar, then Ambarita Village to see the famous stone chairs and the ancient execution site of King Siallagan (for groups of 14 or more). After the island tour, you’ll return to Parapat for a tasty local lunch. Next, you’re on the road again—this time it’s a scenic 4-hour drive toward Berastagi. Along the way, stop at Simarjarunjung for a taste of ginger tea and fried banana (at your own expense) and take in the view from the Karo Highlands. You'll also stop at SipisoPiso Waterfall, which stands at a stunning 110 meters, and soak in views of Lake Toba from the north side. Once you reach Berastagi, there's time to stroll around the Central Fruit Market—taste all sorts of tropical fruits, veggies, and flowers. Dinner’s at a local spot. Then, you’ll head back to Medan. When you arrive, check into your hotel and rest up. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Eat up at the hotel, then get ready to dive into Medan’s bustling streets. First stop: Maimoon Palace and the city’s Grand Mosque. You'll swing by Rumah Markisa Noerlen, a small factory where you can see how locals make passion fruit syrup right from the source. Lunch is served at a local restaurant. Afterward, it’s time for a Medan culinary shopping spree—hunt down Medan’s famous treats like Bika Ambon and Bolu Meranti. Stop by a batik shop and Medan Mall, too. In the afternoon, check in at your hotel and relax. Dinner’s waiting at a nearby restaurant before you head back to the hotel for the night. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and spend the rest of your morning as you please until it’s time to head to the airport for your next adventure. Leave Medan with a suitcase full of snacks and plenty of great memories. (Meals: Breakfast)
