When you land at Kuala Namu International Airport in Medan, your tour guide will be waiting to welcome you. From there, get ready for a scenic four-hour drive to Parapat, passing through Pematang Siantar (the second biggest city in North Sumatra) and rolling past rows of rubber and palm oil plantations. Along the way, you’ll stop at the Patent Shop to check out and maybe grab local snacks like Teng Teng and Ting Ting. Lunch will be at a local restaurant.
Once you reach Parapat, you’ll notice the calm beauty of Lake Toba right away. Don’t miss the chance for a quick photo at the iconic “I LOVE LAKE TOBA” sign. After that, check in at the hotel and settle in. Dinner will be served right at your hotel.

Fuel up with breakfast at the hotel, then set out on a ferry across Lake Toba’s clear waters to Samosir Island. Samosir is a huge volcanic island—one of the largest lake islands in the world—and it’s full of Batak Toba culture and history. At Tomok Village, you’ll see the ancient tomb of King Sidabutar. Then it’s off to Ambarita Village to check out the famous stone chairs and the old execution site of King Siallagan (available for groups of at least 14 people). After exploring Samosir, take the ferry back to Parapat and enjoy lunch at another local spot.
The journey continues as you drive four hours to Berastagi. You’ll make a stop at Simarjarunjung—perfect for sipping ginger tea and munching on fried bananas (at your own cost) while taking in the highland views. Next, visit Sipiso-piso Waterfall, a stunning 110-meter cascade with incredible views of Lake Toba from the north. Once you arrive in Berastagi, swing by the Central Fruit Market for a taste of the region’s tropical fruits, fresh veggies, and flowers. Check in at the hotel and unwind with dinner there.
