Itinerary: Merapi Sunset and Lava Flow Night Tour
We’ll swing by your hotel or the train station to pick you up, then drive straight to our base camp. That’s where you’ll hop into one of our rugged Jeeps—trust me, these things were made for adventure.
The ride itself is a blast. Every twist and turn brings something new—gorgeous views, maybe a few bumps, and a bunch of laughs. As the sun starts to set, you’ll catch that magical golden hour. It’s really something else.
This one’s optional, but honestly, you might want to try some local dishes. Bring a bit of cash if you’re feeling hungry.
We’re off to Gubug Arum Sari.
Grab a seat, maybe spread out a mat, and just settle in. The air gets quiet and cool at night. Everyone’s eyes are on the summit, hoping for a glimpse of glowing lava. It’s not a sure thing—the volcano can be stubborn. Even on clear nights, sometimes you just don’t see it. But that’s part of the adventure.
The ride is a good time to swap stories, check your photos, and just soak in everything you just saw (and felt).
That’s the end of the tour—a night you won’t forget.
Here's what's included/excluded.
What You Get (All the Good Stuff)
- Transport: Forget sketchy vans—we pick you up and drop you off, hassle-free.
- Funky Jeeps: These rides have personality and can handle whatever the road throws at them.
- English-Speaking Driver: Yep, someone you can actually chat with, not just nod at.
- Fuel, Parking, and All That Boring Admin: We cover it all. No surprise costs, no awkward moments.
- Local Eats: Nasi Goreng, Indomie, eggs, snacks, and plenty of water, plus coffee or tea at the viewpoint—because no one likes a hangry explorer.
- Entrance Fees: Covered. No sneaky charges popping up later.
- Guides Who Know Their Stuff: Hear wild volcano stories and local legends, but nobody’s going to quiz you.
What’s Not Included (Let’s Be Real)
- Anything you grab for yourself along the way—snacks, souvenirs, that extra coffee.
- Optional add-ons and keepsakes.
- Tips: Always a nice gesture, totally up to you.
Here’s what you really need to know before you head out
- Don’t forget to charge your phone and camera. Seriously, you’ll kick yourself if your battery dies just as things get good.
- Bring a tripod. Yeah, you might feel silly lugging it, but trust me—your night photos of glowing lava will look a million times better without the blur from shaky hands.
- Bring a jacket or something warm. It feels nice and toasty at the bottom, but once the sun goes down, the cold comes in fast.
Most important? Pack your sense of humor and a little bit of adventure. Things can get bumpy, or the weather might turn weird, but honestly, that’s where the best stories come from.
Here’s your packing list:
- Windproof jacket
- Lotion
- Hat
- Spare clothes
- Towel
- Sunscreen
- Comfy clothes
- Any personal meds you need
Curious about the Merapi Sunset and Lava Flow Night Tour? Here’s what you need to know:
Pretty much anyone! All ages are welcome. Just a heads-up—the jeep ride’s a bit rough, and you’ll walk over rocky ground, so if you have trouble getting around, it might not be the best fit.
This adventure runs about 8 hours. You’ll head out in the afternoon and get back in the evening.
Dress comfortably. Closed-toe shoes are your friend, and a jacket’s a good idea since it can get chilly. Don’t forget your camera—you’ll want to snap some photos of those amazing views.
No strict age rules here. But if you’re bringing little kids, use your best judgment. The ride can be bumpy, and the sights might be a bit much for some youngsters.
Snacks, drinks, and some local treats at Warung (Gubug Arumsari) are included. If you’re hungry for more, you can grab dinner on the way, but that one’s on you.
