Itinerary: Orangutans: 3-Day Medan & Bukit Lawang Adventure
2 Nights in Bukit Lawang
Day 01 :
Medan Airport – Bukit Lawang (L/D)
Touch down at Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, where our friendly guide will be waiting for you. First, we’ll explore Medan together—think stops at the majestic Istana Maimun, the impressive Grand Mosque, the lively Kesawan area, and a visit to the vibrant Chinese temple. After lunch, we hit the road to Bukit Lawang, a famous orangutan rehabilitation center perched right next to Gunung Leuser National Park. It’s a beautiful 3–4-hour drive (about 86 km) through rolling countryside dotted with rubber and palm oil plantations. Arrive at Bukit Lawang, settle into your chosen accommodation, and kick back. The evening is yours to relax and soak up the charm of this riverside village.
Day 02 :
Bukit Lawang Wildlife Tour (B/L/D)
After breakfast at your hotel, get ready for a real adventure—today you’ll trek into the rainforest, searching for wild orangutans. We’ll visit the Bahorok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center inside Gunung Leuser National Park, which covers a staggering 800,000 hectares of untouched rainforest. You’ll head back to the lodge in a fun, local way: tubbing down the Bahorok River (sometimes by truck, depending on the water level). Lunch awaits at the Ecolodge restaurant. Afterward, we’ll check out the fascinating Bat Cave nearby. Wrap up the afternoon at your own pace before having dinner at the lodge.
Day 03 :
Bukit Lawang – Medan – Airport (B/L)
Start your last day with a leisurely breakfast. Enjoy a quiet morning before we drive you back to Medan. Once in Medan, we’ll treat you to a tasty local lunch. If time allows, you can squeeze in some last-minute shopping at Medan Fair Plaza or Sun Plaza before we take you to the airport for your flight home. That’s a wrap—tour ends here!
