Orangutans: 3-Day Medan & Bukit Lawang Adventure
3 Days 2 NightsA Quick Escape into the Wild
Ready for something different? This 3-day adventure from the busy streets of Medan to the wild heart of Bukit Lawang packs a real punch—and a chance to see orangutans up close. It’s a trip that blends city energy, rainforest peace, and real adventure, all in one neat package.
Welcome to Medan: Bukit Lawang Orangutans Tour

You fly into Kualanamu International Airport, and right away, you’re met by a friendly guide who’s all set to show you around. Medan is buzzing—there’s history on every corner. First up, you’ll stop at the Istana Maimun, a grand old palace dripping with 19th-century charm, and the impressive Grand Mosque, where the architecture tells its own story. Wander through the lively Kesawan area, duck into a colorful Chinese temple, and get a real feel for the city’s mix of cultures.
After you’ve had some good local food for lunch, it’s time to swap city scenes for green hills. The drive to Bukit Lawang is about three to four hours, rolling past rubber plantations and palm oil estates. You watch the countryside glide by, maybe doze off for a bit, and before long, the air feels fresher and life slows down.
At Bukit Lawang, you check into your lodge, and the rest of your day is yours. Maybe you’ll rest by the river, maybe you’ll just sit and listen to the jungle sounds. Either way, the place works its magic pretty fast.
Into the Rainforest: A Real Jungle Trek – Meet with Orangutans
Day two is the one you’ll remember. After breakfast, you head into Gunung Leuser National Park—one of the planet’s last strongholds for wild orangutans. At the Bahorok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, you get a rare look at these clever, beautiful animals up in the treetops. As you trek further in, don’t be surprised if you spot gibbons swinging above or hear macaques crashing through the greenery. Birdsong fills the air. You really do feel worlds away from city life.
And for a dose of fun, you’ll float back down the Bahorok River on a tube—unless the river’s low, in which case a truck whisks you back. Lunch at the Ecolodge hits the spot, with local flavors that’ll have you reaching for seconds.
Later, you’ll explore the Bat Cave, which—true to its name—echoes with thousands of bats. It’s cool, slightly spooky, and completely memorable. As the evening rolls in, you can just relax at your lodge, maybe swap stories with other travelers over dinner.
Heading Home with New Stories
Your final morning is slow and easy—breakfast, maybe one last stroll. On the way back to Medan, you’ll stop for a great lunch and, if there’s a little time left, pick up some souvenirs at Medan Fair Plaza or Sun Plaza. Finally, your guide brings you to the airport in time for your flight home, packing away three days of wild beauty, fresh air, and new memories.
This isn’t just a trip. It’s a real chance to get close to Indonesia’s soul—its wildlife, its people, and its stunning landscapes—while giving something back to the orangutans who call this forest home. If you’re hungry for adventure and a little wonder, this 3-day Medan & Bukit Lawang tour has your name on it. Grab your spot and get ready for something unforgettable.
