Itinerary
Bromo, Ijen, and Tumpak Sewu 3-Day Tour
Let’s kick things off bright and early. If you’re waking up in Malang or Surabaya, aim to hit the road between 5:00 and 10:00 in the morning. Coming in by plane or train? No worries, we’ll work around your schedule. The drive to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall takes about 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Grab breakfast from your hotel to eat on the way—trust me, you’ll want the energy.
On the drive, the scenery is pretty wild—think misty volcanoes, abandoned old bridges, sleepy villages, and endless rice fields. Once you hit the parking lot, it’s just a short walk to the panoramic viewpoint. The first glimpse of Tumpak Sewu is unreal—a 180-degree view that’s basically made for photos. Fly your drone here if you have one; you won’t regret it.
After soaking in that view, it’s time to head down to the base of the falls. The trail’s slippery and rocky, so stick close to your guide and watch your step.
At the bottom, you’re surrounded by cliffs and thick forest—it feels like another world. You’ll have about 2–3 hours to explore, depending on how long you want to hang out or trek around. Once you’ve had your fill, we’ll drive you to the Mount Bromo area for the night. It’s a pretty good stretch—about 4 to 5 hours—so you’ll have time to kick back and rest up for the sunrise adventure tomorrow.
Day two starts early—really early. We’ll leave your place in Bromo at 3:00 a.m. and hop in a local jeep for a 45-minute drive up to Kingkong Hill or Pananjakan Hill, both perfect spots for sunrise.
You’ll have about an hour to enjoy a hot coffee or tea while you wait for the sky to light up. Sunrise is around 5:30 a.m. When the sun finally breaks, grab your camera—this is the moment. The view of Mount Bromo and the surrounding landscape in the morning light is something you won’t forget.
We’ll hang around until about 6:30, then jump back in the jeep and roll down to the sand dunes. From here, it’s a 45-minute hike up to the summit of Bromo. The trail isn’t too tough, and the whole way up, you’ll smell that strong sulfur and see just how alive this volcano still is.
Once you’ve taken it all in at the top, we’ll head back to the jeep, return to the hotel for breakfast and a shower, then set off for Banyuwangi city. It’s a long drive—about six hours—but you’ll have the evening to relax before the Ijen adventure.
Last day, and it’s another early one. We’ll leave around 2:00 a.m. and drive about an hour to Paltuding, where your hike up Ijen starts. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the crater rim, depending on your pace. When you get there, your guide will show you the best spot for sunrise and those jaw-dropping views. The crater lake is huge, bright turquoise, and super acidic—gorgeous and a little intimidating all at once.
By around 7 a.m., we’ll head back down, hop in the car, and get you back to your hotel for breakfast. Around 11, we’ll drive you to Ketapang Ferry Port for a one-hour ferry ride to Bali’s Gilimanuk Port. Our journey together wraps up at Ketapang. Thanks for coming along with us!

Before You Go & What to Bring: Bromo Ijen Tumpak Sewu 3-Day Tour
So, you’re getting ready for a trip to Bromo, Ijen, and Tumpak Sewu? Let’s make sure you’re set up for a smooth adventure. Here’s the lowdown on what to pack and what to expect.
What to Bring
- Comfortable walking shoes. You’ll be on your feet a lot, climbing, hiking, and exploring—so don’t even think about skimping on good shoes with solid grip.
- Light jacket or sweater. Nights and early mornings get chilly, and that mountain air really bites, so toss in something warm.
- Raincoat or poncho. The weather’s moody in this region. One minute it’s sunny, the next you’re caught in a downpour. Better safe than soaked.
- Sunscreen and a hat. The sun can sneak up on you, especially at higher altitudes. Protect your skin and your face.
- Insect repellent. Bugs love these spots. Save yourself the itching—bring repellent.
- Camera. Trust me, you’ll want to remember these views.
Things to Know
- Altitude sickness is real up here. Some folks feel dizzy or short of breath, especially around Bromo and Ijen. Drink plenty of water and take your time.
- The trek to Tumpak Sewu isn’t exactly a walk in the park. It’s steep and can get slippery, so make sure you’re in decent shape before you go for it.
- Bring enough cash. You’ll find tasty local food and fun souvenirs, but cards aren’t always accepted.
- Respect the environment. Don’t litter, stick to the marked paths, and leave things as you found them.
With all that in mind, you’re ready for an epic three days out there. Enjoy every minute and travel safe!
